Close-up of a flea.

If you said, “An alien, guess again!”

This is an extreme close-up of a flea, Ctenocephalides felis, or cat flea, to be precise. Cat fleas are the most common type of these unwanted guests and aren’t choosy about who they bite: cats, dogs, rabbits and people are all on the menu!

Of course, we aren’t used to seeing them quite so...up-close and personal. They are tiny and would look like this next to a person’s finger.

If we look at one under a microscope, it looks like this.

Are you itchy yet?
